Meet Higgsfield Genjutsu: How It Works and What You Get

Higgsfield
10 min

Higgsfield Genjutsu is a tool that rebuilds part of a clip without a full reshoot. One feature, Motion Transfer, pulls the motion out of any video and builds a new scene around it. The other, Object Swap, targets the element you specify while preserving the rest of the original shot. No prompt is needed either way: presets can do the whole job on their own. This guide covers how it works, what it’s good for, the full workflow, and pricing.

What Is Higgsfield Genjutsu and How It Works?

Genjutsu takes an existing video and rebuilds part of it. For example, it can change the person in the shot, the setting, or an object in the frame. Everything else stays exactly as filmed. What’s new here is the ability to target a specific element and change it locally, without regenerating or reshooting the rest of the scene. It works on either real footage or generated video. For a single generation, one input video up to 30 seconds long can be uploaded, along with up to 30 reference photos to guide the change. The result comes back in up to 1080p. A full text prompt isn’t required. Depending on the workflow, you can use references or a preset and add a short description when you want a more specific direction.

This tool has two core features:

  • Motion Transfer. Uses the motion from an existing video as a reference, then applies that movement to a new character or rebuilt scene.
  • Object Swap. Replaces the object or element you specify while preserving the rest of the original footage.

Motion Transfer also has a Style option. You can pick one of 20 ready-made styles, such as hand-painted cel animation, felt puppet stop motion or retro game 3D, or upload your own image as a custom style. Every frame takes the new look, while the motion, camera and framing stay as filmed.

Full Workflow: Step-by-Step Guide

Genjutsu can run mostly off presets, with a short description added when more direction is needed. A full prompt usually isn’t necessary either way.

Step 1: Open Higgsfield Genjutsu and choose a feature. Select Motion Transfer or Object Swap based on what you want to change.

Step 2: Upload your source video. Add one video between 4 and 30 seconds long.

Step 3: Add reference images if needed. Upload up to 30 images to define the character, object, outfit, product, location, or style you want Genjutsu to use.

Step 4: Choose a preset or add a short description. Pick one of the available presets for a ready-made transformation, or describe the change yourself. In Motion Transfer, you can also apply a Style to change the look of the whole clip. A full prompt is not required.

Step 5: Generate and review. Compare the result with the source footage, then export the version you want to keep.

Who This Is For

  • Influencers can reuse the same performance across different characters, outfits, locations, or visual styles without filming each version separately.
  • Creators can repurpose a single piece of footage into multiple finished variations while preserving the movement and timing of the original take.
  • Marketers can adapt one campaign for different products, audiences, or markets by changing selected elements without recreating the entire video.

Update: Higgsfield Genjutsu Lite Is Now Available

As of October 20, 2026, Higgsfield Genjutsu Lite offers a faster, lower-cost option for transforming existing videos. It supports clips from 4 to 30 seconds, up to 10 reference images, and output at 720p or 1080p. Upload your source video and references for the character, product, or outfit you want to change. Lite applies the changes automatically, without requiring you to choose between Motion Transfer and Object Swap. On higgsfield.ai, a 15-second Lite generation costs 96 credits at 720p and 192 at 1080p, against 105 and 300 for standard Motion Transfer, with the exact credit cost shown before generation. Genjutsu Lite is also available through API, MCP, CLI, plugins, and Supercomputer. API pricing is listed separately in the API console.
