Set against the striking natural landscape of Sicily, Beach Holidays VHS is a found-footage inspired short film that blends nostalgic family memories with sudden, surreal horror. What begins as a simple beach vacation—captured through the lens of a handheld camera—slowly unfolds into something far more unsettling. As the days pass, tension builds between fear and reason, culminating in an unexpected turn that challenges both the characters and the audience’s perception of reality. Without revealing its final twist, the film plays with contrast: the ordinary and the absurd, the familiar and the unknown. It draws from the visual language of 90s home videos while injecting a modern sense of unease and dark humor. At its heart, Beach Holidays VHS is also a deeply personal project. It is a tribute to the Marinello Lagoons, beneath the Sanctuary of Tindari (Messina, Sicily)—a place where I spent my childhood summers, and which has long been a source of imagination and inspiration. By reimagining this real location through a cinematic and slightly surreal lens, the film becomes both a love letter and a transformation—turning a place of memory into a stage for storytelling. Ultimately, Beach Holidays VHS invites viewers not only to experience its strange and entertaining journey, but also to discover the real beauty behind it: to visit, explore, and be inspired by Marinello themselves. The movie is also a big tribute to the VHS movie series and the found footage cinematographic style which I personally love
