Wallmapu

This short film follows the Mapuche people from their first encounters with Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century to the height of the War of Arauco. It begins with the arrival of Pedro de Valdivia and the construction of forts in Mapuche territory, marking the expansion of the colonial frontier. The story then centers on Lautaro, a former captive who masters Spanish military tactics and turns them into an effective strategy of guerrilla warfare. His leadership leads to the decisive Battle of Tucapel in 1553, where Valdivia is captured. As resistance grows, the Mapuche unite under newly elected leaders, choosing Caupolicán as toqui. The film concludes with the continued struggle, the capture and execution of Caupolicán, and the enduring spirit of Mapuche resistance—an epic story of identity, strategy, and the defense of ancestral land in Wallmapu.
