TEZCATLIPOCA

When Spanish invaders kill the emperor of Tenochtitlan, his grieving son must rise from boy to king — and unleash an ancient power that will turn conquest into reckoning. In 1519, Spanish soldiers march into Tenochtitlan believing they have discovered El Dorado — a city of gold waiting to be claimed. During a ceremonial meeting meant to preserve peace, the Spanish commander kills the emperor with a single strike of his sword, forcing his young son to take the throne before he is ready. As muskets thunder through the streets and sacred gold is torn from temples, the new king watches his world collapse. His closest friend dies defending the city. One night, in the stillness after battle, his mother is shot and dies alone in his arms. Outmatched by steel and gunpowder, and with allies losing faith, the young ruler turns to the only power the invaders cannot understand — Tezcatlipoca, the Jaguar God. If he cannot defeat them as a man, he will summon a god to finish the war. The Spanish came seeking gold. Instead, they awaken something far more dangerous.
