The Chocolate Cookies
I wanted to share this story because it matters. It is the story of Serena, a mother struggling every day to provide for her children, and it reflects the reality of countless women raising their kids alone against every adversity. With only €27.40 in her pocket, Serena stands at the supermarket checkout, watching the total climb past what she can afford. Diapers, milk, chicken… and the chocolate cookies her children love. Each beep of the scanner feels like a punch to her chest. When the cashier picks up the cookies, she remembers her son Luca’s pleading voice from that morning: “Mom, can you get the chocolate ones?” She knows she cannot. With a trembling voice, she says: “Excuse me… I changed my mind about those.” The line freezes. Everyone watches. She pays, leaving only €1.30. Driving home, she hides her tears. At the door, her children run to greet her, full of expectation. “They were all gone,” she whispers, “but tonight we’ll make crepes with sugar.” And for a moment, despite everything, the house is full of laughter, love, and hope. The Chocolate Cookies is a raw and intimate short film about poverty, sacrifice, and the extraordinary courage of mothers who face impossible choices every day to protect their children’s happiness. It is a story that is at once one woman’s and the story of countless families around the world
