Echoes of the Scarlet Road is a dark fantasy series set after the Twilight of the Dragons, an ancient collapse that shattered the world’s balance and left lasting scars on land and people. In a remote, snowbound village lives a red panda who was once the greatest warrior of his age. After a life defined by war, he renounced violence to protect his family and the fragile peace he built. That peace ends with the spread of the Scarlet Lotus Fever, a slow disease born from imbalance that turns its victims into crimson flowers, erasing their humanity. A forbidden legend speaks of a cure: the reunification of the Five Sacred Breaths fire, water, air, earth, and lightning once guarded to keep them from human corruption. Ignoring an old sage’s warnings, the red panda sets out to save his son and his people. His journey leads to the Sanctuary of Kagutsuchi, guardian of the Red Breath, where he expects refuge from his former ally, the Blind Lion. Instead, he finds desecration and meets Arkanis, the Ram, a scarred warlord who believes the disease is divine purification. Their battle ends in defeat. The red panda is broken, the Red Breath is lost, and the disease continues to spread. The story shifts from heroic quest to darker descent, exploring legacy, guilt, and balance, not the restoration of the past, but the question of what deserves to survive when it cannot be saved.
